How I Work

There are a number of ways an author can hire a narrator. I work with authors through all three of the common agreements: Flat Fee (Per Finished Hour), RS+ (Royalty Share Plus), and RS (Royalty Share).

63%

A little more than half of my work is done RS or RS+ so that authors who have an established following can try audiobooks with little risk.

The author pays no fee on completion, but splits royalties 50/50 with the narrator. There is a break clause after seven years, whereupon you can let the agreement roll on, or have the book rerecorded.

The author pays a flat fee on completion, then splits royalties 50/50 with the narrator.  The flat fee is less than for a complete buyout, and is used where a book’s sales outlook is unproven or uncertain, most usually authors who don’t yet have an established selling record. The initial contract is for seven years, then it can either roll on or the audiobook be withdrawn from sale.

You pay  a flat fee per hour of completed audio delivered. There is no royalty share, you then retain 100% proceeds from sales.

Positive Narrator Performance Ratings on Audible

I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I could do this. I truly thought that I was a long way off from my first audiobook. I chatted with Harry and came to understand the potential my book had. I’m so glad I did! It’s been about a year and it’s shot well past our expectations.

Harry brought so much life to my regency romance. He has a brilliant ability to create a unique and believable voices for every character. My audience loved him and he provided a following of his own that made a significant impact on sales.

I thought the whole thing would be a bit of a headache, kind of like editing. It wasn’t. He made the process so easy. I felt like I understood everything as we were moving forward and always knew what would happen next. He asked intelligent, insightful questions early on and then incorporated the answers. I only had a few minor changes in the end.

Common Questions & FAQ's

Yes. It's not uncommon for authors making their first audiobook to have lots of questions and more seasoned authors to want to know a bit about my process. If you've listened to samples and think I might be a good fit for an up coming project, feel free to reach out. Consults typically take about a half an hour, sometimes a bit more.

Typically, you'll pay me a lot less by paying me a flat fee per finished hour (PFH) vs. splitting royalties for seven years (RS & RS+).

Royalty Share and Royalty Share Plus tend to be a good fit for authors who's books sell well but aren't ready to front all of the cash for producing an audiobook.

If you'd like to find out if you qualify for RS or RS+, you can fill out an application here.

It's a good idea to have an established fan base before making your first audiobook. Audiobooks have a smaller following than ebooks so it's advisable to make sure your costs would be covered before you proceed. If you'd like information specific to your book and fanbase, request a market report.

Although no two books sell exactly the same, there are certainly some key indicators on weather or not an audiobook will succeed. I offer a free market assessment to help authors determine if an audiobook is right for their book. Please remember to include a link to your book or the ASIN number if its already out. If not, please provide your last new release.

If you are a more experienced author, and you can reasonably assume  your next book will do a certain number of sales / page reads, then consider doing a joint release with the eBook. This will allow more of your readers to become aware of the audiobook.

If you are paying a flat fee the cost of the audiobook will be determined by how many hours the finished audiobook is. I can determine that for you up front with your book's word count.

If you are paying through royalty share, we'll split the royalties for seven years which means you could end up paying more than you would have by purchasing my services outright. However, you also won't owe money if the audiobook doesn't do well.
